Thoughts and Intentions of the Heart

The Word of God is living and active,
sharper than any two-edged sword,
piercing to the division of soul and spirit,
of joints and marrow, and discerning
the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
HEBREWS 4:12

"Understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated. But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and those things defile the person. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, acts of adultery, other immoral sexual acts, thefts, false testimonies, and slanderous statements. These are the things that defile the person (Mt 15:17-20). I say to you that for every idle word men may speak; they will give account of it in the day of judgment" (Mt 12:36).

One who withholds his words has knowledge, And one who has a cool spirit is a person of understanding. Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is considered wise; When he closes his lips, he is considered prudent (Prov 17:27-28).

If anyone thinks himself to be religious, yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this person’s religion is worthless. But one who has looked intently at the perfect law, the law of freedom, and has continued in it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an active doer, this person will be blessed in what he does (Jas 26,25).
